With 15 rounds (almost) in the books, we’re starting to have an idea of how our teams will look, but one question remains unanswered… how do they stack up? It’s time to find out. The Draft Madness Bracket Challenge will borrow the March Madness formula in order to determine which is the best built team thus far in the draft.
The concept is simple, we put up two rosters, head-to-head, to see which team is better built, winner moves on, loser goes home. It’s important to note here that we don’t want to know which team would win a game or playoff series against the other, as not all teams are built to be competitive right away. Rather we want to know, given the choice between Roster A and Roster B, which would you pick.
There will 5 rounds (The Round of 30, The Sweet Sixteen, The Elite Eight, The Final Four, The Championship). Because a bracket like this should have 32 teams, the only way to make it work would be to give two teams a bye into the Sweet Sixteen. These teams will be the Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings since they bookended the draft. The slotting for teams is based on draft position in order to compare teams with the most equal drafting opportunities.
Gentleman, here is your Draft Madness Bracket:
Voting will occur in 24 hour windows and polls will remain closed until the 24 hours are complete. As soon as I can after the closing of the window, I will post the following round’s matchups and open the voting there. It is encouraged for GMs to comment on the matchups and express their opinions, but let’s not get too negative, we don’t want anyone feeling abused by their peers.
If this is a success, we’ll run it again after round 30, see if any shrewd GMs are able to improve their final standing with some astute depth drafting.
We go live at the completion of the 15th round, feel free to post any thoughts or questions here in the meantime.
My the best-built team win!
