2015-2016 marked a great season for me in Simulation Hockey. Rebuilt a good team in OGSHL with Los Angeles, went all the way to the conference finals in BDSHL with Montreal, and now have come full circle with Winning the Stanley Cup in TSSHL with Ottawa.
11 months ago, atrain24 introduced me to Simulation hockey and I did not jump in with both feet, I dove in. Ask my girlfriend and she'll tell you. I was always on my phone checking out the new boards and threads to read as much as I could. When one of the other leagues I was in crumbled under its own weight due to poor management (cough* Aleric *cough) lol, I immediately spoke to Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks to persuade them to create a new one as its replacement, and I was ultimately the second person to sign up selecting my home town Ottawa Senators.
The SENS went through the long process of drafting its eventual Stanley cup winning team. Then came the season in which we finished with a record of 52-24-6 and 110 points, good enough for 1st in the Atlantic, 4th in the conference, and 8th overall league wide.
Throughout the season we made 5 trades that ended up helping us in the regular season, and gave us that extra push in the playoffs.
Players/picks received: Dan Boyle, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Mike Ribeiro, STL 3rd rd pick, Ryan Dzingel, Tomas Nosek, Nazem Kadri
Players/picks traded away: Dylan Sadowy, Austin Czarnik, Will Butcher, Brock McGinn, Christopher Gibson, Connor Sheary, Ott 2nd rd pick, Marek Hrivik, Cole Schneider, Jan Kostalek, Evgeny Svechnikov, Shane Prince, Ott 3rd rd pick
As you an see, we picked veterans in exchange for a lot of prospects. This was essential in our goal of being an immediate threat to the rest of the league.
The playoffs were a little more stressful going up against the New York Rangers, the Detroit Red Wings, the @dangerousjd, and the Vancouver Canucks, but we ended up with a nice 16-7 record and a 35lbs silver trophy as a reward for beating all of them.
The off season brings up new questions, new deals to be made, relegation drafts, and entry drafts. After all, we have set the bar that the other 29 other teams are trying to surpass.
I look forward to chatting with most of you in the off season and continuing with this great pass time that is Simulation Hockey
