Round 14: This one is risky boys. Devante Simth-Pelly...quite the solid background as far as his junior play went, he excelled in the AHL putting up good numbers...and now....he's...ok? I think? I mean, Smith-Pelly is only 23, he's got a long, long way to go in his NHL career. The thing is, he's not bad, he a brick on the ice end to end and he isn't scared to hammer someone into the boards. The problem with Smith-Pelly is he doesn't score a whole lot. I can imagine sometime soon, Montréal will put Gallagher and Smith-Pelly on the same line to create absolute chaos on the ice as far as physicality and scoring would go. The issue is, they don't play together, and Smith-Pelly needs to step up his game this off season for that to happen.
Round 15: Neuvirth was a no brainer, he's probably one of the best (if not THE best) backups in the league, can't argue with his numbers: 2.05 GAA and a league leading .936 SV%. Nothing more to say..
Round 16: Lars Eller is a very solid third liner for the sim, even though he's playing on the first line as of right now. Solid all around player, playing with Gallagher should up his game a bit. Can't complain about Eller at all.
Round 17: J....C.....BEEEEAAAAAAUUUUUUUDIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN!!!!! Honestly I don't have very high hopes for Avalanche prospects due to the fact they are a huge hit (Tyson Barrie, Matt Duchene, Nathan Mackinnon, Calvin Pickard, Chris Bigras) or a huge miss (Hishon, Rendulic, maybe even Gormley too) So far, this kid is second in scoring on the best team in the QMJHL, and that certainly something you can shake a stick at. Roy must know the in's and out's to these French kids since he was the coach for the Remparts for a few years. Hope he develops well!
Round 18: Thomas Hickey is young and somewhat consistent. He will enter his statistical prime age in 2-3 years so for the moment as a 70 overall I would consider that not half bad, at least for my last D pairing with Holden. I think Holden and Hickey both have huge potential in the next 5 or so seasons, as long as they keep uping their game year after year, they should be leading my defence soon enough.
All for now folks, more rounds to come!
