The year is 2016, TSSHL is created (thanks in part to GM Jason Deblois), and the inaugural draft begins. The Ottawa Senators are set to pick 7th overall. A standout name jump out to us as we are looking at the list of available players... Patrick Kane!
Coming fresh off a 46 goal, 106 point season in which he won the Hart, Art Ross, and Ted Lindsay awards, the Senators could hardly pass up on him.
He proved to be a valuable asset to the team having helped us win the Stanley Cup in the first year of the league, and to the playoffs in its second year.
However, if the Great One Wayne Gretzky can be traded, then you know that there is no sure thing in sports. This off season we have had to make a dramatic change to our team in order to see us make our way back to the Stanley Cup finals:
July 2nd, 2017: the Sens trade promising forward Jakob Silfverberg to the Red Wings in exchange for Brooks Orpik, Roman Polak, Brendan Leipsic, Jonathan Ang, and Jakub Jerabek.
July 5th, 2017: the Sens pick up hometown favorite Derrick Brassard from the Golden Knights in exchange for a 1st Rd pick, a 3rd Rd pick, Tomas Nosek, and Brendan Leipsic.
July 10th, 2017: the Sens trade away recently acquired Jakub Jerabek as well as a 2nd round pick to Colorado for Justin Abdelkader
Lastly
July 20th, 2017: the Sens change the face of their team by moving star forward Patrick Kane, along with Kris Versteeg and goalie Anti Niemi to Detroit in exchange for Adam Henrique, James Neal, Tyler Myers, Jiri Hudler, and Keri Lethonen.
Moving Patrick Kane was not an easy decision, but the players coming back were more then enough to make the deal happen.
Once the 2017-2018 season starts, our lines will be as follows:
Ovechkin - Carter - Henrique
Nash - Brassard - Neal
Stempniak - Ribeiro - Pominville
Abdelkader - Burmistrov - Kunitz
Letang - Muzzin
Myers - Hjalmarsson
Orpik - Polak/Wideman
Crawford
Lethonen
With this team, I'm happy to say that I think that our chances of reaching the cup finals again should be pretty easy. I have tough teams to compete with in Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Pittsburgh Penguins in order to make that happen though. It'll be tough, but we are up to the challenge.
Good luck this year boys.
